Meetings & Events Australia announces new CEO

The new CEO brings strong senior leadership experience to the role.

Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) has announced Peter McDonald will lead the team as chief executive officer.

Commencing earlier this week, McDonald brings senior leadership experience to the role and previous experience managing events.

His most recent role was executive officer, NSW and ACT at the Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia.

“I’m grateful to be given this opportunity and I look forward to working with MEA’s members and collaborating with our partners to underwrite the resurgence and collective success of the Australian events sector,” said McDonald.

“As a strong advocate for education of an industry by the industry, I also look forward to delivering events-natured vocational learning and professional development programs that students and industry practitioners alike can practically apply in the workplace.”

MEA chair Nigel Collin welcomed McDonald to the position and said he will be a great asset to MEA members and the business events sector.

“He brings senior leadership experience gained in other member industry peak bodies, as well as significant professional and tertiary education industry experience,” he said.

“He’s also managed many events over the years, and has a strong commitment to customer service and is keen to ensure we support our members and the industry.”

The appointment comes after Robyn Johnson resigned from the CEO role in October 2020, following a four-year tenure.
