Destination Marketing Services (DMS) recently escorted seven Australian conference and incentive planners on a familiarisation of South Africa, sponsored by Dragonfly Africa, Qantas and Sun International.
The group participated in a variety of unforgettable cultural experiences during their stay.
Dragonfly Africa, one of Southern and Eastern Africa’s leading destination management companies, created a travel experience like no other for the group including an unforgettable cultural experience of the Mzansi Restaurant, situated in Langa, the oldest township in South Africa.
The township holds a strong historical account of movements against the apartheid, so visitors can hear what it was like from those that suffered through it, like the restaurant owner Nomonde Siyaka. Nomode provides home cooked African traditional foods served in the traditional environment, along with live music played by the local community, creating a complete township restaurant experience. Along with the food and great atmosphere, Nomode shares her stories of her apartheid experience, and also how she and her husband, saved painstakingly over the years to change her mother’s house into the restaurant it is today.
The group visited the City of Cape Town, stopping at the Cape of Good Hope and viewing Table Mountain via helicopter.
Some of the additional activities included visiting the colourful and vibrant city of Cape Town, along with climbing its natural wonder Table Mountain and viewing its wonderful beauty from a helicopter, exploring and wine tasting at the nearby wine lands, and discovering the magic of Sun City, Africa’s premier holiday resort.
The group also experienced the essential game-viewing at the luxurious safari lodge in the heart of malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve.
