Historic Sydney music venue reboots as premier events destination

The Hordern Pavilion has undergone a multi-million dollar revitalisation, pivoting to attract new business through enhanced event capabilities.

Sydney’s iconic Hordern Pavilion (The Hordern) has undergone a multi-million dollar seating and behind-the-scenes upgrade that has enhanced the venue’s versatility and capabilities for hosting corporate events, exhibitions and functions.

Renowned for hosting live music performances in Moore Park since its opening in 1924, The Hordern will now be positioned as one of Sydney’s premier event destinations.

Playbill Group managing director Michael Nebenzahl, who has managed the Hordern for over 20 years, said the iconic venue is extremely versatile and continues to expand its reach into other business, community and charity events.

“As The Hordern approaches its 100th Birthday in 2024, our major seating upgrade is just the beginning. We’re getting this beloved Sydney venue ready to keep rocking for another century of live events and entertainment of every form,” Nebenzahl said.

While The Hordern will continue its legacy as a live music venue, Playbill Venues’ General Manager Anthony Dunsford said the prospect of attracting new business was exciting now the major seating upgrades have been completed.

“The Hordern will continue to host live music concerts, but we’re also excited by the prospect of introducing the upgraded, more versatile space to new patrons for occasions such as indoor sporting events, artistic performances, corporate exhibitions, product launches, award evenings, gala balls, charity functions and much more,” Dunsford said.

Following a tough couple of years for events, Dunsford said the venue’s reboot coincides with new market confidence as businesses re-emerge from the challenges and restrictions of the pandemic to reconnect in more traditional ways.

“The past couple of years have been challenging for business, which is why providing an affordable, highly versatile event space for partners, promoters and the wider entertainment and business community has been a key focus for us.”

In addition to an array of live music performances over the years, The Hordern has hosted a wide range of conferences and exhibitions, speaking events, and various corporate functions and award ceremonies, demonstrating its versatility for events. In November this year, it will host the 2022 ARIA Awards.

“Sydney’s beloved Hordern Pavilion is back and better than ever and we’re enjoying welcoming back old friends and hosting new friends.”
