After years of successful networking gatherings, the Event Managers Network will launch a three-day gathering to bring the industry together in an immersive setting on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
EMN 2021 Collective will run from 7-10 October at Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise, offering plenaries, workshops, an exhibition, social events and activations for event industry professionals.
The Event Managers Network was founded in May 2016 by professional event manager Genevieve Deaconos, who realised the varied nature of the event industry, and different trades and titles that came with the job, meant not all event professionals were given opportunities to network and connect.
Today, the network has a national member base of more than 1,000 people who are involved in the planning, production or management of events, conferences and festivals.
Under the care of Sally Porteous, director at Red Lanyard, The Event Managers Network now aims to attract professionals from various sectors including business and social events, to connect with other creative industries such as music, dance, theatre and film.
“I have had such a varied career and recently realised that in every role I was responsible for planning some sort of gathering,” said Porteous.
“I have learnt how the music and film industry can run on the smell of an oily rag, and how business and corporate can bring financial sustainability to their events.
“My goal is to get these sectors to learn from each other and bringing greater audience experiences to life.”
With the support of Destination Gold Coast, EMN 2021 Collective will be open to 200 in-person attendees, with a goal to rethink the traditional conference and exhibition format.
“It’s going to feel like a festival but deliver connections like a party,” said Porteous.
“The content will be rich and engaging, accessible and relevant. Connections will be forged, and partnerships founded.”
EMN 2021 Collective is open to anyone who works in or is interested in event management, whether as a profession, one-time producer or aspiring festival creator.
