A tidal wave of Jaffas will soon engulf the world’s steepest street in Dunedin, NZ this Saturday when Cadbury’s annual Jaffa race returns.

The event was originally scheduled to take place in July, but was cancelled due to bad weather.

Cadbury Carnival events manager Kylie Ruwhi-Karawana told the Otago Daily Times that running the race was a “complex process”.

“We have to engage with all residents on the road, plus blocking off the road is a complex process,” she said.

On Saturday 19 August, three races of up to 25,000 Cadbury Jaffas will be released from the top of the street.

Each Jaffa has been individually numbered by hand, with numbers 01 to 25,000 printed on self adhesive paper and each number stuck onto the candy-coated chocolates.

Depending on track and weather conditions, it can take approximately 20 to 30 seconds for the Giant Jaffas to reach the bottom of the street.
