A group of dedicated Sydney events professionals have joined forces to stage the annual Redkite fundraiser.
The Colour Ball is like no other charity event. Organised by a volunteer committee including representatives from Ivy, Lion Nathan, Decorative Events and Haycom, it is a chance for young professionals to kick up their heels and socialise at a sophisticated but fun cocktail style event with fantastic food and wine, live entertainment and a celebrity MC.
Volunteer organiser Daniel Brandon said, “This is my sixth year on the Colour Ball Committee and first as Co-Chairman. Our aim with Colour Ball is to deliver a memorable night out for everyone who attends, all in support of the Redkite cause.
“I learn something new every year on the Committee – everyone is at the table for the same reason: to make as much money as we can for Redkite. With two young healthy kids of my own (touch wood), volunteering on the Colour Ball Committee gives great balance to my life to help out families in practical ways that are having to support someone up to the age of 24 with cancer,” said Brandon.
Redkite supports children, teenagers and young adults with cancer (up to the age of 24), and their families. Redkite is available with essential support from the moment of diagnosis, throughout treatment and when families return home to the community.
Redkite’s support services include financial assistance, emotional support and education assistance. Financial assistance includes grants to help with expenses and financial counselling. Emotional support in hospitals is provided through social workers and music therapists, and support within the community includes telephone and email counselling, bereavement support and family days.
Children, young people and their families from all major cities, regional areas and remote locations across Australia are supported by Redkite. With the continuing support of the community, Redkite aims to further expand our services in order to offer equity of care and support to all Australian children and young people with cancer.
Redkite receives no government funding and relies entirely on the generosity of the community to provide these important services.
