After comprehensive industry consultation, four new categories have been announced in 2010, to ensure this pinnacle awards program encompasses the entire Australian events industry, creating opportunities for all types of event managers and suppliers to complete on a level playing field.

With less than one month until entries close for the 2010 Australian Event Awards, event professionals across Australia are encouraged to start preparing their entries and think about which category works best for them.

“After the success of the 2009 Awards we received feedback from different areas of the industry who felt that they were not adequately represented in the 22 existing categories. We took those concerns to the Co-Chairs of the Industry Judging Panel and they agreed to add four categories this year,” said executive producer of the Awards, Jeremy Miller.

The four new categories are:
• Best New Event, recognising the innovation associated with the staging of a new event
• Best Private Event, Recognising the role that events play in marking significant private occasions (such as a wedding, birthday, etc.)
• Best Achievement in Entertainment, awarded to the best example of live entertainment at an event and recognising the role that live entertainment plays in the event experience.
• Most Innovative Use of Technology, recognising an outstanding innovation in the use of technology for an event

The 22 categories returning for 2010 include Best Meeting or Conference, Best Exhibition, Best Charity or Cause-Related Event and the Lifetime Achievement Award.

“Each year we will review the level of support that each category receives and will use industry feedback to continue refining the list of Awards. If there is a sector of the Australian events industry that feels underrepresented by the current categories they should certainly contact us and we’ll see if they can be included in future years,” Miller said.

Entries are now open and close on 26th July. For more information and to start your entry, click here.

The 2010 Australian Event Awards is the national awards program to reward innovation and recognise excellence across the entire Australian Events Industry. The Awards will culminate in the 2010 Industry Night of Nights to be held at Sydney Olympic Park on 7th October 2010.
