In Sydney, mai tais cocktails were poured and beaded necklaces were given out as the ukeles played at a lunch held at restaurant venue Sugaroom.
Addressing assembled guests, Hawaii Touirsm Authority’s Mike Story said that while visitor numbers in Hawaii were down this year, travel promotions surrounding the 50th anniversary of the islands’ statehood have made it a more attractive destination ex-Australia.
“Like ROI, visitors will all be looking for a return on vacation,” Story said, adding that a new website had been launched listing free activities available on the islands.
Hawaiian Airlines sales and marketing manager, Sherilyn Robinson, added that the airline offers Australia’s heaviest baggage allowance — 32kg for economy -class passengers.
