For its prestigious luncheon celebrating women in business, Mercedes-Benz sought a stylish, city-central venue with an indoor dining space and an outdoor showcase area. The event required a large, contemporary space for hosting over two-hundred VIP guests and a set-up for presenting Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
For its award-winning catering, unique architecture and exquisite location, The Calyx at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney was chosen to host the event, which took place 9 May 2023.
What was the purpose of the event?
Mercedes-Benz Sydney marketing manager, Brenda Quach said: “The event has become an integral annual celebration and is regarded as an acknowledgement of the increasingly vital role that women play throughout the business community.”
The event’s agenda aims to highlight Australian women’s accomplishments in business. This year it included a panel presentation and fundraising initiatives for charity Street Side Medics.
How was the event delivered and what were the highlights?
Upon arrival, guests were greeted with a glass of G.H.Mumm Champagne and had their photos taken.
Mercedes-Benz Sydney showcased its vehicles in the garden, allowing guests to admire them as they networked on the outdoor terrace. The event incorporated other luxury displays including Christian Louboutin pieces from their ‘ICONS’ collection.
The Calyx combined its distinctive space hosting over 18,000 plants – part of the current Love Your Nature exhibition – into a stylish dining experience.
Award-winning Laissez-faire Catering served an impressive menu, including burrata, heirloom tomato, green oil, aged balsamic glaze and basil for entrée. Mains included pan-roasted barramundi with parsnip puree and a beef tenderloin with broccolini, potato gratin, parsnip chip and truffle jus.
Presentations were hosted by sports media personality Erin Molan, a passionate advocate for online safety. Racing driver Peter Hackett hosted a panel highlighting the achievements of women in business, presented by Diane Tarr, managing director at Mercedes-Benz Vans in Australia and New Zealand, Ilka Fuerstenberger, chief executive officer of Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Australia and Susan Butler, dealer principal at Mercedes-Benz Sydney.
“The Calyx is renowned for hosting bespoke events that provide attendees with unforgettable experiences,” Botanic Gardens of Sydney chief executive, Denise Ora said.
“We’re truly honoured to have welcomed this amazing community to our iconic venue, as well providing a unique experience for Mercedes-Benz Sydney’s guests.”
Were there any challenges and how were they overcome?
Presenting Mercedes-Benz vehicles at The Calyx in the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney posed several challenges. Strict measures were taken to protect the grass, using special flooring mats beneath the vehicles to ensure no damage was caused.
A strategic layout was designed to position the vehicles at the entrance, allowing guests to interact with them upon arrival and ensuring their visibility throughout the event.
Another important consideration was preparing for wet weather. Contingency plans including an indoor expansion were in place, guaranteeing the event could proceed smoothly regardless of weather conditions.
Through protective measures for the grass, a well-planned layout, and effective wet weather plans, the challenges associated with displaying the Mercedes-Benz vehicles within The Calyx were successfully overcome.
What was the feedback from the client and attendees?
Feedback from attendees and Mercedes-Benz has been hugely positive.
“The Calyx was a perfect setting for our luncheon with its Harbourside location, unique architecture, and lush surroundings,” Quach said.
