Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has officially opened Quest Breakfast Creek.

The new-build property is the latest to open in Queensland for Quest and the opening coincided with the announcement that five more Quest Serviced Apartment projects are currently under construction in the sunshine state and expected to open within the next 12 months.

The new properties will boost Quest’s room supply by 90%, taking the chain’s total in Queensland to 16 apartment hotels.

Newman praised the investment from Quest in Queensland and said the expansion “would support the ongoing growth in business being done across the state”.

“Queensland’s four-pillar economy is going from strength to strength and we’re starting to see some really encouraging results from the investments we are making in agriculture, tourism, resources and construction,” Newman said.

“Queensland is a great state with great opportunity and I certainly welcome Quest’s investment in our State. In partnership with business, my government will continue to capitalise on our achievements to build even more confidence in our economic future.”

Quest Chairman Paul Constantinou said the decision to develop the additional properties – located in Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville, Woolloongabba and Upper Mt Gravatt – was on the back of significant demand from business travellers.

He said that was also the reason the company sought a project at Breakfast Creek.

“At Quest Breakfast Creek, being located between the city and airport we are seeing the impact of the expansion of Brisbane airport’s business park and the spread of the CBD,” Constantinou said. “And elsewhere in the State, business is increasingly being done in regional and suburban hubs across Queensland.

“A general shortage of quality accommodation for business travellers has prompted us to fast-track our plans to open more properties in the next 12 months, with further expansion plans in the pipeline,” he said.

Constantinou said the additional five properties would add an additional 1300 apartments to the company’s Queensland stock.

“The demand for our style of quality, fully equipped accommodation is high; stimulated by significant investment in health, education and retail infrastructure and the ongoing growth of defence and industries such as mining and manufacturing,” he said.
