Sydney to host major mining expo again in 2023

The biggest event on the mining calendar welcomed 7,500 delegates from around the world at ICC Sydney last week and delivered $17 million to the NSW economy.

Following the success of this year’s International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC), which welcomed 7,500 delegates from around the globe to ICC Sydney last week, Sydney has been chosen to host the event again in 2023.

IMARC is the biggest event on the mining calendar and this year’s event was held in Sydney for the first time, delivering a $17 million boost to the State’s economy.

Celebrating the win, Business Events Sydney chief executive Lyn Lewis-Smith said securing the event for a second year is a major coup for Sydney.

“This is great result for Sydney, and is a testament to what can be achieved when industry and government come together in a truly collaborative partnership around a shared goal to build industries of the future,” Lewis-Smith said.

Deputy Premier and Minister responsible for resources Paul Toole said the event helped to connect global mining leaders, Government, innovators, and educators from more than 100 countries.

“It has been a massive week for mining in NSW and an exciting time for our State to spruik our globally significant deposits of critical minerals and capitalise on their increasing demand across the world,” Minister Toole said.

“Exciting things are happening in the critical minerals and high-tech metals sector and NSW is ideally placed to be a global leader when it comes to developing emerging technologies for key defence, medical and aerospace industries.

“We expect this ‘boom’ to translate into significant growth in the mining sector so now is a great time to invest in an industry that contributes billions of dollars in economic activity, tens of thousands of jobs and is the lifeblood of many of our regional communities.”
