Shangri-La The Marina, Cairns launches new MICE mag

The 40-page magazine highlights Tropical North Queensland as a dynamic destination for business events.

Shangri-La The Marina, Cairns has unveiled its new MICE magazine, offering inspiration and information for events planners looking to hold their business events and incentive programs in Tropical North Queensland (TNQ).

The first edition of the 40-page Event by Shangri-La magazine is funded by Tourism Australia’s Business Events Boost Program and highlights the region as a dynamic destination for business events.

Shangri-La The Marina, Cairns director of business development – conventions & incentives Allan Horne says the magazine lets professional conference organisers and corporate event planners find inspiration away from a computer screen.

“We know everyone is tired of video conferencing, searching for online resources, opening EDMs and reading emails after squinting at screens for the past two years while working from home,” Horne said.

“We created Event by Shangri-La to let us escape that and do something we enjoyed before the pandemic, browse a magazine packed with interesting information and inspiring images.

Printed on recycled paper, the first issue features stories on both Cairns and TNQ, covering day-trip destinations and a profile on the Master Reef Guides programs, as well as a Q&A with Tourism Australia’s Robin Mack on the Event Here This Year campaign in 2022.

“We also talk to Cairns Convention Centre general manager Janet Hamilton about why business events are so significant to Cairns, and we have pages dedicated to discovering the flavours of Far North cuisine with our hotel Executive Chef Aaron Habgood.”

The magazine was officially unveiled at Get Local in Sydney this week, with copies sent to PCOs and business event planners not in attendance.
