Aussies can now buy tickets online in the US

Since the website was enabled for Cross Border Trade on March 31 2011, thousands tickets have been sold to Australian travellers visiting the USA.

More than half (55%) of these were people snapping up sometimes sold-out passes to major league baseball games, with the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers being the most sought-after.

Basketball games are also popular with Aussie travellers accounting for almost a quarter of all tickets sold (23%), with the LA Lakers and New York Knicks being the most desirable.

Interestingly, concert tickets rank a definite third, making up only 10% of sales to date.

Similar to its parent company eBay, StubHub is an online marketplace where fans can buy and sell tickets to tens of thousands of sports, concert and theatre events.

Unlike ticket brokers, StubHub does not buy, sell or price tickets. Instead, it serves as a safe online platform that manages both sides of every transaction and provides a 100% FanProtect Guarantee.

“Australia is currently our biggest market, even surpassing Mexico and Britain, and we’re seeing an increasing number of travellers buying tickets via StubHub to add an authentic element to a trip to the US,” said StubHub’s Head of Communications, Glenn Lehrman.

Highlighting Aussies appetite for US tickets, Australians are the strongest adaptors of the site by far at 91%, which is 29% higher than the nearest international market.

“Attending a major event can even be the motivation for some fans to travel to the US, so we understand how important it is to have access to tickets. As the world’s leading secondary ticket marketplace we offer some great features that make buying tickets very simple, such as interactive seat maps, paperless tickets and dynamic pricing,” Lehrman said.

StubHub reinvented the ticket resale market in 2000 and continues to lead it through innovation. The company’s unique online marketplace, dedicated solely to tickets, provides all fans the choice to buy or sell their tickets in a safe, convenient and highly reliable environment.

Currently, tickets are only available to North American events. In the last three years, volume on StubHub has increased by more than 300%, while the average ticket sold on the site has fallen in price by more than 20%.
