The wedding events industry is expected to receive a significant boost following the announcement that same sex marriage for couples from all states and territories of Australia is now legal in ACT.

Hyatt Canberra communication manager Michael Fish said, “The hotel currently caters to many weddings in Canberra and with the passing of the legislation the hotel expects to welcomes many more ceremonies and receptions at Hyatt Hotel Canberra.”

Fusion Photography owner Ben Kopilow said, “It might open up a new industry but I’ve been receiving enquiries for commitment ceremonies for a long time before this. It’s still early days and the law may still be overturned in the High Court. It seems that there are a lot of people jumping on the bandwagon but the existing suppliers will be able to cater to this market.”
