An ambitious tourism bureau has organised an emergency forum for the tourism industry to discuss strategy in the face of the world economic crisis.

The Eastern Mediterranean Tourism Association (EMTA) is calling for delegates to attend The Travel and Tourism Resilience Forum in Sydney next month.

The forum will comprise plenary and syndicated breakout sessions for outbound, inbound and domestic, with the objective of all sessions to produce tangible and workable outcomes. It will also feature a number of keynote speaks from professional, academic, literary and media sectors. 

“The best solution for the Australian travel industry… is for tourism professionals to come together and formulate a strategic approach to protect our industry from the negative mood which is gripping Australia and eradicate the view of travel as a discretionary rather than necessary spend,” an e-flyer for the forum said.

“No matter how small or large a business you are, this is the opportunity to chart a road map toward insulating your business. Hear success stories from the experts and develop workable strategies with your industry colleagues to recover tourism in Australia and the health of your business.”

The Travel and Tourism Resilience Forum will take place at the International College of Management (ICM) in Manly, Sydney, on December 6.
