Business Events Tasmania in conjunction with Business Events Australia and Qantas hosted the group who deal specifically with high yield clients – a lucrative market that provides significant economic and social benefits to Tasmania.
Over four days the group took part in a range of activities including wine tasting at Josef Chromy Winery, a scenic helicopter flight over Wineglass Bay and a visit to MONA, the Museum of Old and New Art. They also enjoyed a Medieval Feast at Meadowbank Estate, met a baby Tasmanian devil at Cataract Gorge Restaurant, strolled Salamanca Markets, sampled whisky at Lark Distillery and explored Woolmers Estate – one of Tasmania’s UNESCO World Heritage Listed convict sites. Two journalists from New Zealand also took part and will publish articles on their visit to Tasmania.
Auckland based event specialist Diane Pomfret, director of Ironbark Events, said it was her first visit to Tasmania and it was important to see what the state had to offer her clients.
Top end clients from New Zealand have been targeted to host business events in Tasmania after 11 professional event planners visited the state this week to experience the best of what Tasmania has to offer.
“We cater for high end conferences for 10 to 350 people in the automotive, finance, retail, IT and pharmaceutical industries and trips like our visit to Tasmania allows us to look at a different market and I believe the destination has great potential,” she said.
Business Events Tasmania hosts many major familiarisations with business events clients from interstate and overseas each year.
Business Events Tasmania CEO, Stuart Nettlefold, said business events groups (and especially top end clients) provide an important contribution to the state’s economy spending well over double the amount of leisure tourists per day.
“High end corporate and incentive groups are a key target market for Business Events Tasmania,” he said.
“New product developments such as Saffire, MONA and Princes Wharf Shed 1 present a tremendous opportunity to entice this type of client.”
