The Executive Certificate of Event Management has long been recognised as a great way for graduates to break into the events industry. However in 2011 this internationally renowned course is also proving increasingly popular with experienced event managers looking to stay abreast of the latest event trends and innovations.

Hosted by the renowned Australian Centre for Event Management (ACEM) based at the University of Technology in Sydney (UTS), the Executive Certificate is regarded as the most prestigious short-course in event management among prospective employers and industry leaders in government, corporate and not-for-profit organisations.

Among the graduates in 2010 was Adam Shumack of Horizon Events, one of a growing number of event industry veterans who have signed up for the course in search of fresh ideas and connections for future projects.

“I took the course after many years in the event industry as a means of improving my skills and potentially networking with other professionals, and found that my expectations were more than surpassed,” said Shumack. “I walked away with fresh ideas and a new approach to my work, whilst also gaining contacts that lead to future opportunities.”

With the first intake of students commencing in Sydney on 19 April, this year’s courses will be taught over two units; Event Management and Marketing, and Event Operations, with each taking place over a period of three days.The courses are held in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth and will be delivered through a mix of lectures, class exercises and case studies from some of Australia’s most experienced event industry experts.

ACEM Director, Robert Harris said the short courses were designed for both graduates wanting to break into the event industry and experienced event professionals seeking to update their skill-set.

“Australia’s event industry is growing at a rapid pace and increasingly demands staff with recognised skills and qualifications, so the Executive Certificate is fantastic opportunity to gain globally recognised credentials and network with a ‘who’s who’ of the industry at the same time,” said Harris. “While the short courses do offer an introduction to the event industry for graduates or young professionals, experienced event managers will also benefit from studying with ACEM to keep up to date with the latest industry trends and innovations.”

With little over a month until the start of the Sydney courses, students of every age and experience level are busy signing up for chance to gain the practical insights from successful industry professionals.
