Conference delegates will be able to tee off on Australia’s newest golf course next month, when the 18-hole, Peter Thomson-designed Hamilton Island Golf Course opens for the first time.

Spectacular views: Hamilton Island Golf Course

The Hamilton Island Golf Course is a 6,083m, par 71 course featuring panoramic views of the Whitsunday islands from all 18 holes and is expected to rate highly amongst the list of Australia’s finest courses.

Hamilton Island Yacht Club and Golf Course General Manager, Michael Saville, exclusively revealed to SpiceNews the course is on schedule and will open within the next few weeks.

“The Hamilton Island Golf Course is set to open in the second week of August,” he said. “There is so much happening on Hamilton Island and this is something else for conference delegates to do that is again great quality.”

The Hamilton Island Golf Course – located on nearby Dent Island, a 5-minute boat transfer from the Hamilton Island marina – commenced construction just over two years ago and is the brainchild of five time British Open winner Thomson, who has over 40 years experience in golf course design.

Hamilton Island CEO Glenn Bourke said the timing of the golf course could not be better for the MICE market, given the frequent requests from event planners and conferences organisers for something new and exciting to do on the island.

“We all know how much business is done on a golf course as well and (golf courses) are an important component of many conference and incentive programs,” he told SpiceNews.

Keen Sydney golfers can also visit Hamilton Island for a mid-week or weekend break, following the launch of direct Sydney flights by Virgin Blue on July 4.
