Business Events Australia closes New Zealand office

Following a global review of Tourism Australia’s strategy, the business events operations will move to the Sydney headquarters.

Tourism Australia has confirmed it will move its business events operations in New Zealand to its headquarters in Sydney.

With the closure of the Auckland office, New Zealand country manager Jenny Aitken will depart the organisation at the end of the month.

Tourism Australia managing director Phillipa Harrison confirmed the news.

“Jenny has been with Tourism Australia for almost twelve years now and, during that time, has done a tremendous job in driving the economic benefit for Australia within the New Zealand market,” she said.

The decision to relocate the New Zealand operation locally follows a global review of Tourism Australia’s strategy, which has already seen its UK business events operations successfully centralised.

Tourism Australia said it will continue to targeting the “lucrative business events sector” in New Zealand from its Sydney headquarters.

Activities targeting this sector will complement new consumer marketing projects set to launch in the coming months when travel conditions allow.
