With more than 1,000 people still missing, the current official death toll is expected to significantly grow over the coming the days in what is now deemed as the deadliest wildfire in the United States of America in a century.
The fire disaster ignited on the island of Maui last Tuesday, turning the idyllic paradise island into a raging inferno which has consumed the historic coastal town of Lāhainā and left behind a trail of destruction and despair in West Maui.
While the devastation in Lāhainā is immense and unprecedented, the full extent of the damage affecting residents, families and local businesses has yet to be fully understood.
The current rescue and recovery efforts are arduous and every bit of support is crucial. To help the affected communities and families, we urge you to please extend your support by making a donation through the Maui Strong Fund, established by the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation, via the link below:
Spice News is incredibly saddened by this recent tragedy and we wish to extend our condolences and support to our friends at Hawai’i Tourism Oceania and the people of Hawai’i.
A note from the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority:
Visitors with plans to stay in West Maui in the coming weeks and months are urged to consider rescheduling their travel plans for a later time when the overall situation has improved for area residents.
In the weeks ahead, the collective resources and attention of the federal, state and county government, the West Maui community, and the travel industry must be focused on the recovery of residents who were forced to evacuate their homes and businesses.
