Dunbar House, a historic mansion built in the 1830s and located on the shores of Sydney’s Watsons Bay, is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar restoration that will see it re-open in February 2011 as one of Sydney’s most impressive venues for events of all styles – from weddings to corporate events, conferences, gala dinners, board meetings and private celebrations.
The historic Dunbar House at Sydney’s Watsons Bay will open for event in early February.
Having recently changed ownership, Dunbar House, one of Australia’s oldest standing buildings, is now owned and operated by The Tea Room Group, proprietors of acclaimed Sydney venues The Tea Room QVB, The Tea Room Gunners’ Barracks and Sergeants’ Mess. With a reputation for transforming historic Sydney buildings into stunning event venues, this new addition to the Tea Room Group stable will cater for events from 16 to 160 people, with a range of spaces and configurations all boasting breathtaking harbour views, elegant intricacies of design, extensive facilities and world class dining.

Located only 11km from the Sydney CBD by road, or easily accessible via charter vessel or ferry to Watsons Bay Wharf, Dunbar House will also offer state of the art audio visual technology throughout, including wide-screen projectors, plasma screens, wireless internet access and conference call facilities. Meanwhile, Head Chef Keith Murray, who trained in Michelin Star Award-winning restaurants in Ireland and has spent eight years as Head Chef at The Tea Room QVB, will put together outstanding food and wine menus to suit individual budgets and requirements.
According to Manuel Spinola, founder and director of The Tea Room Group, the revitalised Dunbar House will fill a long-standing gap in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs for a world-class event venue.

“Having entered the market almost 14 years ago when we opened The Tea Room QVB, we feel we have a really solid grasp of what the market is looking for in an event venue, and we wanted to be able to offer that in the Eastern Suburbs,” said Spinola.
“Dunbar House is a remarkable building filled with a rich history, but it really was in dire need of a little T.L.C. We saw a unique opportunity to restore Dunbar House to its former glory, by transforming it into one of the city’s most prestigious and beautiful event venues so that people can enjoy it for years to come,” he said.
Dunbar House is located at 9 Marine Parade, Watsons Bay and is currently taking bookings for February 2011 onwards.
