With Taylor Swift mania sweeping the harbour city, Australia’s largest hotel operator experienced unprecedented levels of accommodation bookings throughout its 40 Sydney hotels – the biggest influx of guests since the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000.
With Swift playing to 335,000 fans across four sold-out shows at Accor Stadium – on the back of three sold-out shows at the MCG in Melbourne – crowds made the pilgrimage to Sydney Olympic Park to see the US superstar perform.
Swift is the first artist to play four consecutive sold-out shows at Accor Stadium on the one tour.
This convergence of fans combined with attendees of US band blink-182 – which performed at Qudos Bank Arena in the same precinct across two shows on 23-24 February – and SailGP on Sydney Harbour. This resulted in the spike of hotel bookings across the three days.
“Hotel results in Sydney over the weekend were higher than anything we’ve seen since the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” says Adrian Williams, Accor Pacific’s chief operating officer, PM&E.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to witness this incredible moment, where the convergence of music, sport and tourism ignites such excitement and possibility.
“I am proud of our dedicated hotel teams, who welcomed and catered to our many guests over the weekend.
“The boost to tourism doesn’t just stop at creating memories – it creates jobs. From hospitality to entertainment, every aspect of this contributes to our mission of fostering prosperity and creating meaningful opportunities for our communities.”
