Sydney’s Wharf 8 closes for demolition

Sydney's iconic waterside venue, Wharf 8 will close tomorrow for demolishment to make way for Bangaroo Development

Sydney’s iconic waterside venue, Wharf 8 will close tomorrow (June 30) for demolishment as part of a decision made by the NSW State Government.

“It is with great regret that we bring you the sad news regarding the closure of the infamous Wharf 8 Venue, at the end of this month,” said a statement released by the team at OPT Venue Management.

“Wharf 8’s departure from the event industry is being made to pave the way for the new Barangaroo development area, made famous by the World Youth Day celebrations. The demolishment of the venue and construction of the area is set to take place in late 2011 with the new precinct expected to open in late 2014.

We would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere gratitude to all of those individuals, companies and suppliers that helped to play a huge part in the enormous success of the Wharf 8 venue over the past 10 years. Your support, kindness and feedback has not gone unnoticed and we wish to thank you all.”

With this said we can not wait to continue our work together and welcome you back to The award winning Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT), one of Sydney’s most iconic harbourside venues.”

The announcement also indicated that the OPT team have moved offices to the mezzanine level of the OPT building in Sydney’s Circular Quay.
