Sydney Showground clients will have the opportunity to opt in to a new program to measure and report on the sustainability of their event.
Reports are personalised and provide insight that allows clients to build tailored strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. They also have the option to become Climate Conscious Certified by offsetting emissions and supporting carbon projects that align with the client’s values.
According to Clima, the events industry accounts for more than 10 per cent of global carbon emissions, and 62 per cent of event organisers are planning to host more environmentally conscious events in 2024.
“Event sustainability has been a core mission for our venue during the past 12 months,” says Sydney Showground general manager Darryl Jeffrey.
“Partnering with Clima is another important step in this journey.
“Data shows event organisers are wanting to host more environmentally conscious events and that customers feel better when attending these events.
“As a venue, it is our job to help clients achieve this goal and support them in a proactive way.
“By working with Clima, we hope to arm our clients with resources and tools for them to take positive steps towards becoming net zero, while we continue to invest in the sustainability of our venue and work towards this same goal.”
The partnership with Clima comes on the back of Sydney Showground’s launch of its environment, social and governance sustainability strategy in late 2023, and recent $4 million investment in a LED lighting upgrade to reduce ENGIE Stadium’s power consumption by half on event days.
