Qantas Credit Union has saved the day for the ‘Ent Cent’ with a two year naming rights sponsorship of the venue. The venue will now be known as the Qantas Credit Union Arena.

Elton John is rumoured to be playing at the 2015 closing concert

The venue, that was due to be razed to the ground as part of the Darling Harbour foreshore redevelopment, has been granted a reprieve with the financial support of its new corporate partner.

The name change coincides with AEG Ogden taking over operations at the arena until the end of 2015.

Sydney Entertainment Centre general manager Steve Hevern said, “Our business case for the Sydney Entertainment Centre remaining open for a further two years included the securing of sponsorship revenue. Qantas Credit Union has stepped up to the plate in being a major contributor to the financial viability of the Centre during the next two years.”

Promoters have supported this move with strong bookings for the year ahead including the Dolly Parton tour, Queens of the Stone Age, Arctic Monkey, Nine Inch Nails and Jason Derulo.

Qantas Credit Union Arena Chairman Harvey Lister said that the centre plans to go out with a bang when it finally does close down. He said that they are currently fielding suggestions for which artists should play at the farewell concerts, with Elton John and John Farnham currently in negotiation.

Over the past 30 years, the venue that has staged over 4000 concerts for more than 26 million fans and holds the title of the fourth most successful venue of its size in the world.
