Starwood Hotels and Resorts is set to flag a resort on Tokoriki Island in Fiji under its Sheraton brand.

Owned by local Fijian proprietary company, Ritam Investments Ltd, owned by P Meghji Group, Starwood will manage the luxury island resort under Sheraton on a long term contract, following a conversion project in excess of AUD$20 million (FJD$35 million).

Slated to re-open in April 2014, Sheraton Fiji Resort and Spa, Tokoriki Island, previously an independent resort devastated in Cyclone Evan, is located on a 35-acre site, nestled in the south-western corner of Tokoriki Island, the most northern island within Fiji’s Mamanuca group.

As one of Fiji’s largest upscale island resorts, Sheraton Fiji Resort and Spa, Tokoriki Island, will feature a total of 101 guest bures, rooms and suites, including 30 Tokoriki Retreats with private plunge pools; 14 Beachfront Bures; 14 Deluxe Bures, with a choice of mountain or garden view; 18 Ocean View Rooms; six Family Suites and 19 Garden/Mountain View Rooms.

Guests will enjoy the luxury of the resort’s exclusive beachfront location and extensive leisure facilities, including an outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre, tennis courts, kids club, two boutique shops and a style theatre/cinema accommodating up to 50 guests. A choice of three defined dining venues will be available to guests throughout the day, including an all-day dining restaurant, light-fare café and casual bar. The resort will also feature an on-site, modern day spa featuring four serene treatment rooms and a wide range of indulgent relaxation packages.

Conference, business and meeting amenities will be consistent with Sheraton’s reputation for high standards and state-of the-art facilities. Sheraton Fiji Resort and Spa, Tokoriki Island’s redeveloped function area and beachfront landscape will offer a relaxing and striking alternative for a world-class meeting or event for up to 140 guests.

The latest Sheraton signing for the Pacific demonstrates Starwood’s continued growth in the region and is part of the Sheraton brand’s aggressive global expansion plan, which seeks to reach a milestone of 500 hotels by 2015.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts regional vice president, Pacific, Sean Hunt said, “We are thrilled to announce this new partnership with Ritam Investments, a well-established Fijian identity with over 40 years’ experience in local operations, to further expand Starwood’s portfolio in the region.

“The signing of Sheraton Fiji Resort and Spa, Tokoriki Island, increases our properties in Fiji to four and further solidifies our position as a market leader in the destination.”

Ritam Investments’ Director, Romit Meghji said: “We are delighted to be embarking on this new chapter with a leading and internationally recognised hotel company, such as Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

“Our luxury island resort on Tokoriki is quite unlike anything Fiji currently has to offer. We believe this unique positioning together with the strong reputation and iconic status of the Sheraton brand, will attract both leisure and business travellers seeking an upscale, authentic and idyllic experience in Fiji.”
