Melbourne-based company O’Brien Group won the tender after promising to redevelop the stadium’s 70 bars and restaurants.

According to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald, O’Brien is ‘aiming to become a dominant facility manager in Australia and New Zealand’.

O’Brien currently manages The Gabba, Melbourne’s AAMI Park, Simmonds Stadium in Geelong, Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast, Eden Park in New Zealand and the Brisbane International tennis tournament.

O’Brien won $500 million of new hospitality and leisure contracts in 2015 and also purchased Imperial Hotel on the corner of Spring and Bourke streets in Melbourne.

In addition to losing the Suncorp contract after 31 years, Spotless has also lost its Rio Tinto contract which has resulted in the company downgrading its stock price.
