Originally built between 1852-1858 as a cool summer residence by Adelaide politician and lawyer Arthur Hardy, today it is regarded as one of South Australia’s most outstanding country house hotels and conference retreat destinations.
Rebuilt in the 1980’s following damage from the Ash Wednesday fires that ravaged the area, Mount Lofty House today boasts eight rooms in the original heritage wings while rooms in the Piccadilly wing overlooking the Piccadilly Valley bring the total number of rooms and suites to 33.
Other features include twelve acres of gardens and vineyards (chardonnay + pinot noir vines), 18 acres of bushland, outdoor swimming pool, billiards and snooker, volleyball court, flood lit tennis court, and a guest library where refreshments are served throughout the day.
Mount Lofty House is renowned for its special event, conference and corporate retreat facilities, with seven function venues accommodating from 5- 300 guests for private use.
And being on the doorstep of a fabulous food and wine region, the hotel’s Piccadilly Restaurant, under the direction of Executive chef Girard Ramsay, is a destination restaurant for locals and visitors as well as house guests, with a la carte dinners served nightly, showcasing the best of the Adelaide Hills regions produce and wines.
