Controversial Sydney artist Frank Fable’s latest grimy urban lifescape exhibition has debuted at uber-cool Surry Hills shop Somedays.
Fable’s mural before being cut into 25 works
Last night’s (Jun 24) launch marked the first solo exhibition for Fable, who has been gaining momentum with works that originate from the “internal turmoil of a life spent wrestling a broken mind”, according to the artist.
Fable’s work for this exhibition, entitled ‘deconstruction of a lonely city’ – a conglomeration of bizarre visions with a touch of sexual connotation and sick humour – was first constructed as a giant 4.5x3m mural, then cut apart to form 25 individual artworks.
The opening night, sponsored by Bighead Beer and Jed Wines saw about 10 of the 25 works sold. It also doubled up as a showcase for what clothing-store-cum-art-gallery Somedays can offer when it comes to events – particularly for planners looking for something unique, hip and very Surry Hills.
Frank Fable’s ‘deconstruction of a lonely city’ is showing at Somedays, 72B Fitzroy Street Surry Hills, until July 21.
