The Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney has dominated the 2010 AHA (NSW) Accommodation Awards for Excellence overnight, taking out four categories, including three for its food and beverage offerings.

Held at Hilton Sydney last night (May 3), the 13th annual awards were attended by over 600 industry guests, including NSW Tourism Minister Jodi McKay, and recognised accommodation excellence across 33 categories.
Alongside Shangri-La Hotel Sydney – which won Concierge of the Year (Colin Toomey), Chef of the Year (Steven Krasicki), Restaurant of the Year (Altitude) and Bar of the Year (Blue Bar) – the other main winners included Sheraton on the Park and Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa, both winning three awards each.
Sheraton on the Park was named Best Function Venue, Best Brasserie / Cafe (Botanica Brasserie) and OH&S Hotel, while Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa won Best Environmental Initiative, Regional Deluxe Accommodation of the Year and Outstanding Contribution to Tourism.
“These prestigious Awards provide the opportunity to showcase the full range of our members’ venues, up to the most elite properties. And the competition for 2010 has certainly set an impressive benchmark,” said AHA (NSW) Accommodation Division chairman Richard Munro.
“I am particularly proud of the 10 accommodation hotel employees who received individual awards this year, as they are the future of our industry.
“In addition, this year we launched the Inaugural Hall of Fame and have welcomed Sean Connolly from Star City Hotel and Apartments, Darley’s Restaurant at Lilianfels Blue Mountains Resort and Spa, The Old City Bank Brasserie at The Carrington Hotel and Quay Grand Suites Sydney to this illustrious category,” Munro said.
Other winners on the night included The Observatory Hotel for Deluxe Hotel Accommodation, Crowne Plaza Terrigal for Regional Superior Accommodation and Four Seasons Hotel Sydney for Health Club and Spa facilities.
Crowne Plaza Terrigal general manager David Bark said he was proud to receive the award, particularly following the property’s recent multi-million dollar renovation.
“Recognition by our industry peers as NSW’s best superior accommodation outside the Sydney metropolitan area is a fantastic accomplishment,” he said.
“The win reflects our ongoing efforts to provide a consistently high standard of service from our friendly and efficient team, great conference, corporate and leisure facilities and an array of top quality food and beverage options.”
Four Seasons Hotel Sydney Spa Manager Lucy Kennington was similarly overjoyed with the property’s win and said: “This award is testament to our highly skilled spa therapists who consistently deliver the most memorable treatments, so it’s wonderful to be recognised in front of our industry colleagues with this prestigious award.”
