The much-anticipated Sergeants Mess will open doors for corporate and private events on August 1 in Sydney’s Chowder Bay.
The purpose-built event venue, located 15 km from the CBD and on the water’s edge in national park, the former 1960’s military building has undergone a multi-million dollar renovation, transforming it from a deserted army barracks into the ultimate venue for events of all styles. From weddings to conferences, corporate events and gala dinners.
Sydney’s Sergeants Mess offers a variety of sophisticated venue spaces for events.
Owned and operated by Manuel Spinola of The Tea Room QVB and The Tea Room Gunners’ Barracks, Sergeants’ Mess will cater for events from 20 to 350 people, with a range of spaces and configurations, all boasting harbour views and world-class dining.
Additionally the venue has implemented a wide range of initiatives reducing its environmental impact including the use of solar hot water, rainwater tanks, state of the art low energy kitchen appliances, low wattage lighting and a unique 100 mile food and wine menu where 99 percent of ingredients are sourced from within 100 mile radius of the venue.
“At Sergeants’ Mess, nature is good to us, so we’re good to nature,” said The Tea Room group’s sales and marketing manager, Holly Orsman Smith. “For companies that are committed to environmental responsibility, finding a venue that shares those same values and allows them to hold a world-class event while remaining conscious of their environmental impact is an important priority.”
The unique 100 food and wine menu form a key part of Sergeants’ Mess’ plan to offer an exceptional fine dining experience in an event environment. The seasonal 100 mile menu will exist alongside the standard menu.

“It was our goal to create a large-scale, ultra luxurious event venue that would retain the quality of a fine-dining restaurant while offering a completely unique event experience. We knew as soon as this remarkable location became available that it was an opportunity not to be missed,” she said.
Guests will have access to activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, sailing to bushwalking. Sergeants’ Mess is accessible by car, taxi, Sydney buses or via charter boat direct to Chowder Bay wharf and is currently open for bookings from August 2009 and beyond.
