Rydges Hotels and Resorts is extending its Australian portfolio, becoming the new operator of the Darwin Airport Resort and Darwin Airport Hotel (formerly the Airport Inn).

The appointment comes following the sale of the property from a local syndicate headed by John ‘Foxy’ Robinson to Darwin Airport Hotels and takes the successful Rydges brand into the Northern Territory.
Entities associated with Phillip Wolanski’s Denwol Hotel Partners and Baron Corporation acquired the hotels in the expanding Darwin economy. This is a further foray into airport hotels by Wolanski who already has interests in the Formule1 at Sydney Airport.
“The selection of Rydges to manage the Airport Hotels reflects an alignment with a ‘can do’ culture within Rydges, their impressive loyalty scheme and emphasis on local management,” Wolanski said.
Both Rydges Darwin Airport Resort and Rydges Darwin Airport Hotel are situated on the doorstep of the Darwin International Airport allowing guests an easy five minute walk from the terminal to the comfort of their room. Alternatively, a free shuttle bus is also available from the resort and hotel to the airport.
Set amongst tropical gardens and with a range of guest rooms including suites and freestanding bungalows, the 181 room Rydges Darwin Airport Resort is a four star property featuring a restaurant and bar, large landscaped lagoon pool, pool bar, conferencing facilities and a gymnasium.
Rydges Darwin Airport Hotel is a contemporary destination with 136 rooms including business and family suites, apartments and even dormitory style rooms for the budget traveller. Guest amenities include Loong Fong Seafood Restaurant, poolside bar, meeting rooms, a business centre and extensive car parking.
The addition of Rydges Darwin Airport Resort and Rydges Darwin Airport Hotel ensures Rydges can be found in every Australian state and territory, plus in New Zealand, London and Dubai.
“Our expansion into Darwin complements our vast portfolio of hotels and resorts within Australia and New Zealand,” said Amalgamated Holdings Limited Managing Director, David Seargeant.
“Rydges are excited to have a presence again in the Top End and look forward to re-introducing the character, hospitality and services of our exciting Australian owned and operated company”.
Rydges has appointed experienced operator Justin Boydell as General Manager of Darwin Airport Resort and Airport Hotel. Justin transfers to the Northern Territory from Capricorn Resort in Yeppoon (QLD), after also having management roles at Rydges Rotorua (NZ) and Rydges Lakeland Resort Queenstown (NZ).
