Record year for Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

The centre doubled its visitor numbers in 2018 and attracted a total 1485 business events.

Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre is celebrating a milestone year, after achieving its highest ever economic impact delivered to Malaysia in 2018.

The centre delivered of RM888 million (more than AU$301 million) in the calendar year, representing an 80 per cent increase on 2017, and welcomed 2.18 million visitors, an increase of 49 per cent.

In total, the centre hosted 1485 event, up by 17 per cent compared to the year before.

General manager Alan Pryor attributed the results to the centre’s “dedicated and highly experienced team”.

“It is especially pleasing to see an increase across most of our business segments,” he said.

“Our clients are clearly enjoying our customisable solutions and services that deliver a seamless and rewarding customer journey from beginning to end.”

The centre’s association meetings segment saw the largest increase, up 22 per cent compared to 2017, followed by corporate meetings and banquet events with a 20 per cent increase and the exhibitions segment with 12 per cent growth.

Looking ahead, 2019 is shaping up to be another successful year for the centre, with its expansion opening later in the year.

The expansion will add an additional 11,000 square metres of flexible space for its clients to grow their events and enable the venue to accommodate more concurrent events.
