The $600 million redevelopment of the Whitsundays’ Lindeman Island resort has been granted ‘co-ordinated project’ status by the Queensland Government.
Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited (WMDL) executive director Jeff Aquilina welcomed the project, saying, “The fact that the project was the state’s first co-ordinated project in 18 months certainly demonstrates the importance of this large scale development to the Queensland economy, as well as strong confidence in our local tourism industry.
“The proposed development includes a new five star beach resort, six star spa resort, five star eco resort, tourist villas, a central village precinct and 50-berth marina.
“With a total of 335 suites, this project will create immense benefits for the local economy of the Whitsundays.
“It will not only generate hundreds of jobs during construction and operation but the iconic resort will also attract many additional visitors to the Whitsundays.
“It is certainly fantastic news for the Whitsundays and we are confident that the proposed project will further help achieve our region’s vision that the Whitsundays will be globally recognised as one of the world’s leading tropical island and marine leisure holiday destinations,” said Aquilina.
