Pier One Sydney Harbour announces $10 million refurb

All rooms and suites will be refreshed, completing the hotel's five-year transformation project.

Pier One Sydney Harbour, a Marriott Autograph property, will invest $10 million in refurbishing all rooms and suites from this month.

With works set to be completed by September 2019, the renovation completes a five-year transformation journey for the hotel.

“The design transformation of our rooms marks the final piece of the puzzle for an exciting journey for the hotel,” said general manager Kim Mahaffy.

“We are now one of Sydney’s pre-eminent lifestyle hotels, with a luxurious, yet accessible offering for guests looking for a distinctively Sydney experience right on Sydney Harbour.”

Heritage architects Tonkin Zulaikha Greer have been engaged to undertake the design refresh, which will include darker tones and a subtle nautical theme, referencing the rich maritime history central to Pier One.

“By working with a design firm that is renowned for their heritage renovations, we hope to bring this to life for our guests, with a focus on sourcing Australian and locally-made materials and furniture,” said Mahaffy.

Since Marriott International took over the property in February 2014, Pier One Sydney Harbour has seen a series of major renovations of the central facilities including entry lobby, bar, restaurant and conferencing facilities.

The Gantry Restaurant opened in early 2015, before The Kerrigan opened the following year, serving Australian BBQ fare in a casual smokehouse setting.

The accommodation works will commence this month with minimum disruption to in-house guests and hotel inventory, due to a carefully staged renovation process.
