Western Australia’s iconic new venue, Perth Arena, has already celebrated some significant milestones since opening its doors for the very first time in November.
The 15,500 capacity arena anchoring Perth’s new entertainment development in the CBD was named the 121st venue in the world for concert ticket sales by Pollstar, a huge achievement given the venue was open for only one month of the year. This success only serves to indicate a 2013 that has Perth well and truly entrenched on the world’s entertainment map.
It’s been a busy few months for the venue manager AEG Ogden, since the venue’s gala opening on November 10 with Sir Elton John and his band, Perth Arena hosted an incredible 19 major ticketed events in 30 days, with 41 on sale.
Global superstars JLo and Nicki Minaj, comedy king Russell Brand, Perth’s own sporting elite – the Perth Wildcats, musicians Nickelback and Matchbox Twenty and children’s entertainers The Wiggles are just some of the identities that have graced Perth Arena’s stage over the four week period.
The Hyundai Hopman Cup, December 29 to January 5, not only ushered in the New Year but also an event listing for 2013 that reads like a who’s-who of the world’s best. The Hyundai Hopman Cup saw the Arena’s roof open for the first time and was the most attended in the tournament’s history by a staggering 30,000 more people.
The incredible milestones the building has witnessed are many and varied. The original Wiggles said farewell, INXS announced their retirement live on stage by an emotional Jon Farriss, Jennifer Lopez performed for the first time ever on Australian soil and the Perth Wildcats returned to the city after 10 years to the largest crowd in their 30 year history of 12,300.
On top of the action in the arena bowl, in its first month of operation alone, Perth Arena has welcomed 177, 595 people through the doors over the four week period.
The lineup for the next 12 months is continually growing, including KISS, Motley Crue, Black Sabbath, Andre Rieu, One Direction, The Script, P!NK, Guns N’Roses with ZZ Top, WWE, The Jacksons, Neil Young and more.
One lucky winner will be enjoying each and every one of these events having won the Golden Ticket, which raised $50,000 for Radio Lollipop’s transition to the new Perth children’s hospital.
In addition to the touring and sporting entertainment, Perth Arena has been quickly embraced by private and corporate hirers in Perth excited by the opening of this venue in the heart of the city.
