A style icon on Sydney’s harbourfront, Ocean Room has just been announced as the only Australian finalist in this year’s Restaurant and Bar Design Awards.
For the second year running, these British awards have been recognised as a celebration of design excellence in restaurants and bars locally as well as worldwide. Going head to head with seven other restaurants in the International category, Ocean Room is the only restaurant in Australia to receive this prestigious nomination.
Sydney’s Ocean Room is the only Australian restaurant nominated for the Restauarnt and Bar Design Awards
Transformed by internationally acclaimed designer, Yasumichi Morita of Japanese design firm Glamorous, Ocean Room is a destination for patrons seeking a contemporary and elegant space to meet, dine and drink. Drawing upon ancient wooden elements and a grand chandelier motif, the Ocean Room design is harmonious with the restaurant’s distinctive philosophy of Japanese traditions meeting the modern world. Marking his first venture on Australian soil, Morita has installed one of his colossal signature chandeliers consisting of 42,458 Asiatic timber cylinders fitted together like a giant hanging puzzle on the restaurant’s ceiling. Achieving this award nomination is testament to Ocean Room’s envelope pushing design concept.
