New venue announced for Howard Smith Wharves

Following the success of his Greek restaurant, Jonathan Barthelmess has snapped up the vacant space next door.

Brisbane’s Howard Smith Wharves will add another venue to its line up, with the announcement of a second restaurant by Jonathan Barthelmess.

Following the successful launch of his Greek dining venue Greca, the restaurateur will take over the vacant space next door to open a Japanese izakaya and bar.

Nestled in between Greca and soon-to-open Stanley, Barthelmess’ new restaurant is inspired by his travels in Tokyo, where he owns another Greek restaurant, The Apollo.

The restaurant will feature a raw section based on sustainable seafood, specially sourced and selected Wagyu beef and an extensive sake and wine list.

Upstairs will be a take on a vinyl bar with an extensive whiskey list.

“We love being part of Howard Smith Wharves where the huge success of Greca has taken us all by surprise,” said Barthelmess.

“By taking the restaurant space next door we can grow and strengthen our team and invest more into the Brisbane dining scene.”

More details, including the venue’s name, chef and direction, will be released ahead of the restaurant’s scheduled opening in October.
