Sydney’s unique heritage retreat property, Q Station, is to be managed by Mirvac Hotels & Resorts, from this month.
In a joint statement, Mirvac Hotels & Resorts and Q Station operators, the Mawland Group, said Mirvac would take on the management of the property’s accommodation, food and beverage, conferencing and tour operations.
Mirvac Hotels and Resorts will now manage Sydney’s unique Q Station retreat
Mawland Quarantine Station Pty Ltd and Mawland Group Director Max Player remain as the leaseholders of the property, set within 36 hectares of the Sydney Harbour National Park at North Head near Manly and listed on the National Estate.
Announcing the move, Player said Q Station had performed extremely well since its opening in 2008.
“However, I believe that our future growth will be even greater if we work with a large and experienced accommodation group like Mirvac Hotels & Resorts, which has considerable sales and marketing resources, ” he said.
Commenting on the agreement, Mirvac Hotels & Resorts Chairman Gary Flowers said Q Station was a great addition to Mirvac’s portfolio of 4 to 5-star properties. “Mirvac Hotels & Resorts is honoured to be entrusted with the management of this iconic Sydney landmark,” Flowers said.
“Max Player has developed a unique hotel, offering all those who stay or visit an unforgettable experience, with historic and unrivalled attractions.
“We believe we can add significant value to the business through our sophisticated distribution network, attracting the leisure and conference markets,” he said.
Positioned five minutes’ drive from Manly, the waterfront Q Station occupies the site of Australia’s first and longest-running quarantine station, dating back to 1829.
Carefully restored and sympathetically adapted at a cost of more than $18 million, Q Station now offers 73 guestrooms and six cottages along with a harbourside restaurant, conference facilities and a popular program of tours and activities, catering to more than 100,000 visitors a year.
Since its opening, the property has won numerous awards and most recently has been shortlisted as a finalist in the unique accommodation section of the NSW Tourism Awards.
Player said the new management agreement would not affect existing bookings.
