Accor has announced Best Western Plus Lake Kawana Waters in Queensland has been rebranded to Mercure Sunshine Coast Kawana Waters.
The rebrand is part of a franchise agreement with hotel owners Stay Centro GC.
Set on the waterfront in Lake Kawana, the 81-room hotel spans four floors and is located an hour from Brisbane Airport or 20 minutes from Sunshine Coast Airport.
The hotel, built in 2015, also features a restaurant and bar and two separate event spaces that can be joined to host up to 130 people for cocktail events and 80 for a banquet.
Accor Pacific chief operating officer Simon McGrath said the Mercure is a strategic addition to the Sunshine Coast region on the precipice of a significant tourism boom.
New figures released in the International and National Visitor Surveys show for the year to September 2019, the Sunshine Coast recorded a total 3.97 million visitors (up 14.8 per cent) and an overnight visitor expenditure of $2.6 billion (up a record 12.5 per cent).
“Such positive visitation growth figures are buoyed by significant tourism investment and major infrastructure projects which will elevate the destination, including construction of a multi-million-dollar redevelopment of Maroochydore CBD, expansion of the Sunshine Coast International Airport to bring it up to a global standard, in addition to another runway which will increase air capacity,” said McGrath.
“The destination’s already strong business events market is set for even greater growth opportunities with the recent completion of the $10 million Sunshine Coast Convention Centre, as part of the Novotel Sunshine Coast Resort.”
