Move over Goods Line; Melbourne is building a Skypark.
Melbourne will be joining the elevated park trend with a new development directly across from Southern Cross Station in the CBD.
Other cities around the world with elevated parks include Osaka with its 8-level high Namba Parks complex (complete with waterfalls), New York City with the High Line, and Paris with the Promenade Plantée – both of which are built on old elevated rail lines.
Part of the Melbourne Quarter project – billed as one of the most significant developments since Federation Square – the space will feature new pedestrian walk ways, shops, apartments, cafes, retail and office space high above Collins Street.
Skypark is slated to open in 2018.
