In a special event with the Hon Martin Ferguson MP, last week (October 7) Hyatt Hotels in Australia have teamed up with Mint Group Australia and the Australian Federal and State Governments, to launch the Pacific School of Hospitality.

The school (PSOH) will provide Hyatt employees with ongoing workplace training with participating hotels including Grand Hyatt Melbourne, Hyatt Hotel Canberra, Hyatt Regency Coolum, Hyatt Regency Perth, Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove, Park Hyatt Melbourne and Park Hyatt Sydney.

The curriculum of PSOH includes training and development courses and also allows hotel staff to complete a Certificate III or IV in Hospitality while working at participating Hyatt hotels. Most hospitality employers in the country recognise the training certificate.

“We welcome the opportunity to have input on such a valuable training tool,” said HR and training specialists Mint Group’s director Tony Fritsche. “Training in the current economy makes good business sense. The Hyatt hotels participating in this new programme will not only be improving the skills of their staff, but also investing in something that promotes career development, retention and productivity.”

“Through the new programme, hotel associates will receive a wealth of experience and knowledge enabling them to perform their job with confidence and skill,” added area director of human resources for Hyatt hotels in Australia, Andrew Nodding. “Each associate will have a personalised learning syllabus customised to suit their individual requirements.”

The official PSOH launch event was held at in The Grand Club at Grand Hyatt Melbourne with special guest, the Hon Martin Ferguson MP, Minister for Resources, Energy and Tourism, in attendance.
