With Howard Smith Wharves set to open from next month, the Brisbane development has revealed details of two new event spaces, The Rivershed and The Houses.
Local design studio Fellow Interiors are behind the design of the two venues, which capitalises on the precinct’s prime location beneath the Story Bridge.
The Rivershed, a former heritage wharf building, is a large, flexible space with capacity for 480 seated guests and 630 standing. The venue can be broken into two smaller spaces, Rivershed East and Rivershed West, to host multiple events simultaneously.
Fellow Interiors has retained the building’s industrial character, with exposed wood beams and a six-metre-high gabled roof.
Four boutique venues, known as The Houses, will also be on offer from February 2019 for smaller events. Each of The Houses features distinct characteristics, such as the Citrus House, ideal for private dinners or boardroom meetings, and the spacious Bougainvillea House with river and city views and a wrap-around veranda.
Howard Smith Wharves general manager of events Scott Bayne says Brisbane is a thriving hub for business with a strong sense of community.
“It was therefore essential for us to create welcoming, ownable spaces within the precinct that could be constantly transformed for any event size or type — be it runway shows or gala dinners, product launches or weddings,” he says.
“Crafting a place that accommodates those various needs — while still feeling bespoke, classic-contemporary and personable — isn’t easy, which is why we partnered with Fellow Interiors.”
In addition to the two event spaces, Howard’s Hall, a 1100-square-metre venue, is also in the works and is expected to open in November.
Designed by renowned architecture studio Woods Bagot, Howard’s Hall will have capacity for 1200 in cocktail style, with the ability to use outdoor event spaces to extend capacity.
Food and beverage will be a major focus throughout each of the venues, according to Howard Smith Wharves director Adam Flaskas.
“The Rivershed integrates a bakery and coffee roasting facilities, and packages for all spaces include the beer we hand-craft on site,” he says.
“Our executive chef for events, Steve Forrester, will be at the ready for scalable catering needs, preparing bright seasonal cuisine from local produce.”
Bookings are now open for the The Rivershed and The Houses.
