Bondi’s Asian tapas restaurant and bar has set up shop in Sydney’s inner west.

Gemma Lin and Adam Hunt, the creative duo behind Mamasan, have created another quirky venue with food inspired by th  Taiwanese night street markets where Lin worked after a childhood spent in a remote fishing village on the North Coast of Taiwan.

The menu is constantly evolving thanks to the pair’s annual trips to Taiwan and Japan. Current highlights include daily fresh sashimi, dumplings, duck pancakes, chilli chicken and their popular ‘One Bite Beef’ and ‘Fish on Fire’ dishes.

Mamasan’s interior showcases a 5-metre high curved acoustic roof, a light installation featuring 500 stems of white Sakura (Japanese cherry blossoms) and a 4m high Japanese maple. An 80 year old wooden dinghy, featuring old lights from Taiwanese fishing boats, has been re-imagined as the sashimi bar in the basement area.

The venue is available for private functions. The venue is split over three levels and seats approximately 100 people.

Mamasan Surry Hills is located at 403 Crown St, Surry Hills NSW. See SpiceNews Facebook for all the interior images.
