Melbourne may soon have its very own surf park complete with a heated pool, artificial waves, a beach, a grassy hill and shops at Docklands Central Pier in Victoria Harbour.
Designed by local architect Damian Rogers and headed by engineering firm Arup, the surf park’s pool – which would cost at least $8 million – will be heated all year round and will use filtered salt water from the harbour. The artificial waves will reach up to 1.5m in height.
Rogers said, “Just to be able to hear the waves breaking and go for a surf – even if you’re not a surfer, to be able to sit there and watch it. It would just be a great place to be. Yet another great place for people in Melbourne to go.”
The project is still waiting approval from the Melbourne City Council and Places Victoria.
