The musical talents of Jonathan Boulet and Skipping Girl Vinegar will propel Melbourne into an epic summer of live music with their concert launching Fed Square Live Presented by The Push, a series of free all-ages events every second Thursday at Fed Square starting from 7 October 2010 until April.

Fed Square Live Presented by The Push is a sonic feast set to tantalise all musical taste buds with indie, blues and roots, world music, dance and rock performances by top independent acts and emerging local and national talent on the bill.

Music lovers of all ages are invited to Federation Square to help kick off Melbourne’s summer music events with free concerts

Jonathan Boulet, the self proclaimed ‘skate rat’ from Sydney whose abstract electronica-tinged instrumentals and majestic, uplifting colourful pop sounds have set the indie world alight will be supported by Melbourne’s own and equally inspiring Skipping Girl Vinegar in a program highlight for the series, which is set to be an annual event.

Over the next few months the eclectic programme, which kicks off during the Melbourne Music Festival, will also feature the funk and soulful sounds of Kylie Auldist; the theatrical rock fusion of [ME]; the beat-boxing, harmonising, beyond comparison and description, Mr Percival as well as the indie pop, radio darlings, The Naked and Famous.

Hailing from Lajamanu near the top of the Tanami Desert in central Australia, The Lajamanu Teenage Band will delight audiences with their fresh, fast and furiously fun talents. The indigenous band have earned a huge following with their songs about the outback life of young Aboriginals.

The rest of the 2010 program will be announced in coming weeks.

“Fed Square is a vibrant home for such a broad range of performances, installations and exhibitions and with the upgrade of our stage area and the busy summer season, we look forward to a wonderful program of free all-ages gigs, here in the city’s heart” said Kate Brennan CEO of Fed Square Pty Ltd.

The program has been developed by Fed Square in partnership with The Push, a non-profit youth music organisation that runs a range of music events and industry training throughout the state.

General Manager of The Push, Peter Chellew, said, “We are thrilled to be able to partner with Federation Square to present 14 free and accessible music gigs for Melbourne’s independent music lovers.”

“Not only will this series showcase some of our finest Australian talent across a range of styles, you’ll also have the chance to discover some of the freshest emerging acts that this country is presently offering! With the warmer months nearly upon us, I can’t think of a better way to spend a balmy Thursday evening in Melbourne”, Chellew said.
