Event Snapshot: Exclusive sneak-peak of MCEC’s new expansion

The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre treated the AIME 2018 industry press to an exclusive hardhat tour of the $200m expansion, ahead of its July opening.
The pre-function area within the new MCEC extension will feature natural light from a skylight and will open to two additional spaces – a courtyard with a timber deck as well as a separate terrace with capacity for 120 people (cocktail).

The extension will add an extra 20,000 square metres of flexible, multi-purpose event space to the existing structure, making it Australia’s largest convention and exhibition space at over 70,000 square metres in size.

A multi-purpose area with a retractable 1,000 seat theatre and additional adaptable meeting rooms are two of many flexible features throughout the new building.

Michael Walsh – MCEC Director of Strategy and Innovation has confirmed that the first event within the expanded Exhibition Centre will take place on 1 July 2018
There will be an additional 9000 square metres, taking the total exhibition floorspace to 40,000 square metres
The Sovereign Room in the new extension of the MCEC features gold timber veneer on the walls with sound-absorbing acoustic properties. It will have the capacity for 450 people (cabaret) or 800 people (theatre) and when finished will feature a rich navy blue carpet.
