Tucked down Kellett Way, El Cubano offers Sydneysiders an authentic taste of Cuba.

El Cubano is located in Kellett St, Kings Cross

Chef Jose Antonio Perez Arguelles, formerly of La Bodeguita del Medio, has opened up his own restaurant saying that Sydney will finally have the chance to taste real Cuban fare.

The downstairs bar is stocked with Cuban spirits

Born in Trinidad but having lived and worked in Cuba for five years, Jose told SPICENEWS that Cuban cuisine draws on African, Spanish, Caribbean and native Taino influences brought in by sugar cane plantation workers.

There is a cigar menu for serious coinnoisseurs

The menu features traditional items such as rice and beans, plantains, pork and corn-based tamales and purees but also has some surprises in the form of guava-based desserts, coconut water cocktails alongside the ‘Canchanchera’, a honey and lemon-based cocktail that is served in a legendary backstreet bar in Havana.

Spread over two levels, El Cubano has an extensive Latin music catalogue, dance floor space, outdoor smoking area and offers a cigar bar service where patrons can choose from an array of Cuba’s best cigars. The venue is available for exclusive hire and both the upstairs and downstairs areas can be booked for private dining for up to 40 people per floor.
