Want to take your delegates out of the city but you don’t want to lose them in the wild? Coogee, Sydney’s upcoming beachside suburb, might be the answer to your prayers.

Centred on the 209-room Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach, there is a wealth of activities and facilities at your fingertips.

Within the hotel, there is a ballroom with its own built-in registration desk and pre-function space, two boardrooms and three small function rooms that open onto the pool terrace, as well as several lower ground function rooms and conference spaces ideal for groups who want direct street access, as opposed to entry via the hotel’s reception area.Crowne Plaza Coogee

The pool terrace area is available for private hire for events and fits up to 200 people standing, as well as Bluesalt restaurant and bar and Oceans Dining and Drinks that can cater for smaller groups.

The guest rooms, lobby and event spaces have all undergone a recent refresh with new paint, Smart TVs and, in some areas, furniture.

The hotel has enormous amounts of underground parking, as well as a tennis court, heated pool and gym.

Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach’s food philosophy focuses on healthy dishes with lots of seafood options to complement the location. The breakfast buffet features a make-your-own juice station, the conference menus feature lots of single serve salads chock full of protein and local ingredients like foraged samphire, and the team there can knock out a stellar BBQ with plenty of flavour-packed marinades.

And then there’s the view. The Ocean View rooms have unobstructed views over the ocean for maximum sunrise Instagrammability.

Living-Room-Yoga-Class-1

Want to get your group out of the conference room and into a more creative, zen space? Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach has partnered with yoga studio The Living Room to offer either off-site, outdoor classes for large groups, private classes in The Living Room’s beachfront studio for groups of up to 40 people, or a drop-in voucher system where delegates can attend any of the studio’s regular classes when they get time.

An additional bonus is that The Living Room sits atop popular local café haunt, Barzura, so coffees, power yogi breakfasts or even offsite lunches or dinners for up to 100 people are all possible.

Another fun concept that has been tailored to Coogee is Be Challenged’s new Go Team teambuilding competition (click on the image above to watch an explanatory video). Participants are given a tablet that is loaded up with the Go Team app which acts as an orienteering, trivia and activity challenge. There are targets outlined in the app that participants have to locate. When they find the target, they then have to perform certain tasks including making videos, taking photos, building sandcastles and buy gelato.

There is a points tally throughout the one hour challenge, as well as a messaging app so that ‘Big Brother’ (aka Be Challenged team members) can communicate with participants throughout the game.

Winners are awarded gold medals and losers are awarded wooden spoons but the upshot of the whole experience is that teams bond while getting a little taste of Coogee’s local history and environment.

Finally, the crack team at Let’s Go Surfing can tailor surfing lessons, stand up paddle boarding lessons, Life Saving drills and teambuilding exercises for conference delegates.

With up to 10 people in the water at a time with a couple of instructors, the rest of the group can be entertained onshore doing a number of other activities. The water-based classes generally last for an hour so a rotation system is employed. As Coogee is a surf beach, the water-based activities are suitable for delegates with reasonable fitness levels who can swim.
