Fearnley Grounds is the name of the new visitor precinct in Centennial Park, Sydney.
The creation of the new precinct was driven by visitor feedback and customer surveys over many years, as well as extensive consultation – including during the community consultation phase of the Centennial Park Master Plan 2040.
Stage One of the project has resulted in the delivery of a new café, The Greenhouse Centennial Park, a relocated bike hire business, Centennial Park Cycles, the children’s Learners Cycleway (being upgraded in 2016), a playground (being upgraded in 2016), accessible amenities, new pathways and picnic tables, a new covered picnic shelter and a free gas barbecue.
In early 2015 a public naming competition was launched to solicit ideas for a name the new visitor services precinct. A selection panel considered the 76 entries and were unanimously in support of one recognition submission – that of Kurt Fearnley OAM.
